{{ Sadly, there isn’t. But I thank you for trying. It was supply and demand and it turns out I wasn’t very high in demand. }}

{{ We’re all faring well, thank you. Jen and Micha have been quite exhausted as of late, since Jen’s now working for the police and Micha’s just tired. He said something about anaemia a while back. }}

Alice hadn’t touched her own tea. Now, she wasn’t as thirsty as she had been originally. She nodded in understanding. Her own shop had had trouble in the beginning, right when she was starting out. It was small and unknown to the world. Only when she started getting in more books and rare ones at that did she start to get acknowledged.

“I understand what you mean. Really, I can help you. We can do some advertisments and just get it recognized. And probably not having the first book on the house… Despite how friendly it is..” She gave a small smile.

“I hope you’re not insinuating that I’m old.” She gave a small chuckle.

"No, of course not," Winston mumbled. "You’re just very…nice. Kind. Warm. That’s how my mum was. She wanted to make everyone happy, even if she wasn’t. Even my father…" he said softly. He took a quiet sip of his tea as he perched on his makeshift bed. "My mum’s gone now, but I suppose it was for the best."

Winston tugged on his button up, staring down at the milky brown contents of his tea, watching the excess sugar swirl about the top.

Frowning, he cocked his head to the side. A genetic mutation? Nicolas nodded, thinking, before he seemed surprised. The man disappeared? “Can.” He paused, thinking. “Can you control it at all?” A genetic mutation that sounded eerily out of Harry Potter. Magic, almost. Nicolas glanced around, suddenly fearful that his Father was listening, before he looked Winston over again - suddenly worried, too, that the man would disappear.

Winston blew out a slow sigh. “I-well. A bit. It takes a lot out of me, though, and I usually have to wait a few hours before returning,” he murmured. “And I would completely understand if you decided I wasn’t worth it,” Winston mumbled.

“Nothing in it, thanks.” She looked around once more before moving closer to the counter only to jump back slightly when he jumped over. She couldn’t help the small grin that formed.

“Yes, I do. I mean, I could help you out and all…” She shrugged her shoulders and looked around nonchalantly before her eyes landed on him once more.

“I mean, us bookshop owners need to help each other out. I would hate to see such a lovely place end up…” She couldn’t even finish the sentence.

Winston sat cross legged on his bed and stared down at his tea mug. “Yeah. I’ve seen it nearly go there a few times and it’s the scariest thing. To think what I’ve been cultivating and moulding for almost fifteen years could just…drop.”

"I don’t want this shop to have over a hundred customers a day. I just want one or two. About twenty a week. I don’t want the hustle and bustle. I just want my books and my tea," he murmured. He’d like a friend or two, but once they found out what he was and what he could do, they left him, too.

"You remind me of my mum," he said quietly.

"What a strange tradition. Sound interesting, think I’ll give it a go."

Hearing Winston say his name softly had him turning, and Nicolas smiled a little. “Of course, darling. You can tell me ‘something’.” He chuckled and, seeing as they had stopped, pulled him over to the side of the path closest to the shops. “Yes?”

Winston wrung his hands and took a deep breath. “I’m not entirely human. I am a muta- I have a genetic mutation.” That wasn’t too hard. As soon as the words left his mouth, though, he couldn’t stop them. “My atoms, you see, they don’t stay still. They knock about and they make this charge. And then they separate. And then I disappear, and reappear in another location. Be it a city, a state, a village, another country. One time, I managed to a deserted island.” He bit his lip and closed his eyes, waiting for the inevitable.
